Presentations
Visiting schools and libraries are the most rewarding aspects of being an author. Martha loves the opportunity to discuss her novels and what inspired these stories, with students. She is excited to do presentations, in person or virtual, for students in Kindergarten up to grade 10.
For junior, intermediate and senior students Martha will use a power point presentation. She will invite students to discuss the themes and issues in her novels. Playing games to develop character, setting and plot in fictional writing are part of the presentation. Depending on the group she often delves into historical fiction, as many of her stories are set in historical times. She enjoys oral story telling and writing workshops. If time permits, Martha will do dutch folk art with the students.
In the Primary grades, Martha will focus on friendship, co-operation, perseverance, determination and forgiveness. Together with the students, she will create simple poems or chants. Story telling works well in primary grades as well and the students will have a chance to fold paper wagons.
As a retired teacher, Martha feels comfortable doing presentations and readings for large groups of students.
Fees are negotiable, depending on the type of presentation.
